    Hi,

I was suggested to look for programs for video editing that have the ability to fill in brown patches in grass with green for example. Is this even possible? If so, what programs should I look at and how difficult are they to use and to learn?

What you're likely looking for is called chroma keying. Green has always been the keystone color. I don't know of other choices for video editing but every day seems to bring new innovations.

In a photo this is easily accomplished with photoshop, look up a few tutorials on youtube. If you're talking about a video, that will be very difficult. Personally I don't mess with natural colors much. I find it looks weird.
