I think he may be talking for warranty-type reasons, recalls, etc.

You can create an account thru DJI.com and I think you can load some serial #'s there against your account.

Yes, registration for warranty purposes. I have a login via the app from when I got my vision a year ago but wanted to register my new Plus with DJI.

Where is the serial number located?

I think it was on the box it came in near the UPC? I had my Phantom built for me, and they provided the UPCs from the boxes to me at delivery.
