Phoenix Arizona area.

I flew there early this morning and some indians came along and asked me what I was doing on the reservation and asked if I was alone. I told them as I was in my car ready to leave anyway. They said we will follow you out. It was kind of a strange experience. They followed me up to the main road and then some a bit.

Im in Gilbert. I fly an F550 setup with WooKong-M. Would to meet up with anyone out here. I dont know anyone that flies other than me here.

Very cool I fly a + and live at Broadway and the 101. It's really hot right now for me but I would love to meet up some time.

I would also love to see one of those 550s in action.

Sent ya a PM, lets meet up and fly a few packs one weekend soon.

I fly out at the reservation some here by me in Gilbert. They dont like us on the res much is all it is. Kinda should make sure its ok first. I have asked and got cleared to fly as long as I keep out of peoples private areas. Not like thats hard to do, haha.

Anyway, we all need to meet up soon. Weather is nice again at last!

Hi, Yeah the weather is getting nicer. I'd like to do some flying around Prescott where my dad lives but have held off because of what I've read about other people having issues with sudden drops flying at elevation. I just ordered some of the new thrust boosted props so I may give it a try soon. I haven't been back to that reservation since then lol.

Oh wow that's strange. I have never seen anyone out there. I guess they are a little protective of their land when they are out there. Did they actually see you flying or did they just follow you for no reason?

FYI here is a list of parks in phoenix that you can fly at.

I don't think they saw me flying at least that I know of. I was already in my car when they drove up. One time someone in a truck was watching me flying until I landed and they drove off. They never said anything I assumed they were curious about the drone.

Thanks for the park list. I noticed Esteban Park was on it. I was surprised by that one as it's 2 miles or less from sky harbor airport well within the 5 mile radius.

Hey guys. I arrived in the Phoenix valley (Chandler) yesterday from New York with my Phantom. Anyone in the area want to show me some good places to fly while I'm here? Any suggestions? How about the old Army air field near Riggs & I10 I believe it is Indian owned now. There are (were) a few abandoned aircraft there that would be cool to see/film.

It appears you also must be a member of the AMA (which I am), to fly in these parks. Any recommendations on which one is better suited for a Phantom?

I can't recommend a park for sure since I've never yet taken my P2 up there. I looked at each park in Google maps / earth. It really depends where you are and how far you want to drive. These parks are all over the phoenix area and you can spend a lot of time in traffic if you get on the highway close to rush hour. These are approved parks and you have an AMA card so it's just a matter of what is closer to you. I'd have a look at them on google maps and maybe pick a couple. I think all of these parks you can pull up with a search and see photos to get an idea what they look like.

Coyote Basin Park- 2730 E. Beardsley Rd. (27th Place and Beardsley Road)
Desert Foothills Park - Lower Field - 1010 Marketplace Southwest (Chandler Boulevard and Desert Foothills Parkway)
Dynamite Park - 4550 E. Dynamite Blvd. (north of Dynamite Road at 44th Street)
El Prado Park- 6428 S. 19th Ave. (19th Avenue and Southern Avenue)
Esteban Park- Eastern Quadrant. 3345 E. Roeser Road (32nd Street and Broadway Road) - This park is about 2 - 2 1/2 miles or less to Sky Harbor airport. I wouldn't pick that one but others may be fine with it. I also see police regularly hang out here.
Grover's Basin Park B - 17447 N. 20th St. (Cave Creek Road and Grovers)
Mountain View II Park- open space south of the ballfield, 9901 N. 7th Avenue, (7th and Cinnabar avenues)
Werner's Field Park - 17831 N. 7th Ave. (7th and Grovers avenues)

Thanks for the reply. I am staying in Chandler near Riggs & Lindsay. There is an old Army airfield near Riggs & I10 I would like to check out. Ever been there?

That sounds like an interesting place. I'm not familiar with it or Chandler either. I've just lived here over a year. I used to use Google maps to locate some open spaces and flew my ar. Drone over some farm fields in the past. Besides flying at the Indian reservation before getting escorted off I have only been flying out of town in the desert.

Hey guys. I got a four day weekend coming up so definitely going to do some flying. I have another friend who fly's with me too. I like the army base idea but I don't know if we should go swarm the place with 4 drones. I don't like attracting a lot of attention. I'm thinking more outside of town this weekend. Maybe the south side of the Superstition Mountains near Carney Springs Road, Gold Canyon, AZ. They have some cool looking rocks out there and a couple trailheads to park at. If we get high enough we might get a view of Weavers Needle.

Or another spot I'm thinking is the west side of the Estrellas like Quartz Peak Trailhead. Kinda boring area but I bet there wont be a lot of people. But hell I'd probably drive anywhere this weekend. I just need to get out of the city.

I'm shootin for Sunday afternoon or Monday early morning.

Maybe I can hookup with some locals one of these days. I'm leaving Saturday and will be in California all week on vacation. I hope to find some interesting spots to fly.

Wow that army base looks wide open. Maybe I will try flying there.

Trust me I have thought about the Aircraft boneyard but I think they are active airports so DJI probably has it blocked anyway.

I did a little recon on the air field. It appears it is in fact on Native land and there was a very threatening sign promising confiscation of cars, guns, etc. if caught trespassing. Since I am in a rental 2015 Camaro RS convertible with 20" rubber bands for tires and the road was badly rutted I decided not to proceed. It is also bordered by Intel which is under heavy surveillance. I am dying to go back there but I could not find any signs or contact info anywhere. It looks abandoned but locals have said it is still used. Anyone have any details on this place, or who to contact for tribal enforcement?

That's a scary sign. Recently a college kid was pulled over for speeding in her SUV. The tribal police found part of a joint in it. They took her car and sold it at auction I think. She is trying legal action to try recover money if I remember right. The Indian reservation is like an independent government from the US almost
http://visitarizona.com/things-to-do/na ... res/tribes

That's a list of tribes and some contact numbers. I had been going to Gila river reservation. I found the address of the Gila river sheriff and wrote a letter asking some questions. That was about 2 months ago. I never got any letter back. I didn't try to call though. I was hoping to have a yes or no in writing. You can always ask them.

Thanks for the link. I will do some more research on this place.
By the way, where in the valley are you located? Any interest in meeting someplace to do a little flying & filming?

UPDATE - It is the Gila River Community. I have a number for the manager of the Gila River Memorial Airport. Apparently they were hoping to put up another casino there but it never happened for one reason or another. Says it is a working airport but it has no hanger, no fuel, no services of any kind and the runway is listed as 'crumbling'. Hoping they are cool about visitors.
