P1 will not connect to firmware, no green and blue lights, have slow flash on model of RED then GREEN, motors spin up and can be controlled to full power and down again. Was wondering if I have a problem with the compass on the leg. Changed USB cable and no problem, work with other models, have uninstalled and reinstalled firmware about 3 times, no connection on Win 8.1 or Win7. Hoping it not the GPS module or compass. The model will fly, but because of light flashing not taking the chance of any long distance or height flying,( hovered in back garden). Any ideas please.

Are you speaking of Phantom 1? There are no blue lights in it. The flashing red and finally green is the regular power-up sequence:when red led is flashing( 3 then 2 then 1 time) the Phantom is searching for satellites. When green flashes you have more than 6 satellites locked and you can fully use all the GPS functions (GPS ATTI stabilization, home lock etc.).
When you say firmware, probably you mean driver. To install the driver you should follow the instructions in chapter A1 of Phantom_Advanced_Manual. Differently from most drivers, DJI suggests to run the driver installer program when the Phantom is powered up and connected to the PC using the stock USB cable. BE CAREFULL if you use a different USB cable: some USB cables are for power charging only and NOT for data transmission. It is strongly recommended that you use the Phantom stock cable. Finally you have to install the Naza Assistant: it is not important when you install the Naza assistant: it will work only when the driver is correctly installed. When the Phantom is connected to the PC using the USB cable, any led flashing will stop.

There is another possibility.
Check in this section the discussion "Phantom does not connect to Naza" post 38 & 39.
If you are re-installing the driver, you should first change the date of your computer back to 2015.
Then delete the driver, re-install the driver, check the connection and go back to the current date and time. This suggestion come directly from DJI.
