Hi,

Has anyone placed the GPS unit from the inside onto the top outside of the Phantom ?

I don't really see any benefit from doing that. The GPS antenna is brittle, and would crack easily.

The other DJI GPS units come in a plastic housing anyway, so it must not be too difficult to penetrate.

Also, the GPS must be installed facing a certain direction, that's why the top shell has the red stripes near the motors,
that match up to the bottom shell, so you don't install it 90 deg. out of time.

I dont think in the the phantom it matters which way the compass is orientated as its just an antenna. The standalone gps units come with a compass so these need proper orientation to work but the phantom has the compass on the leg as a seperate unit so its not the same issue.

If you put the top on wrong by 90 degrees then the prop rotation indicators on the shell will be all wrong which has caught a few people out.
