What happens if you let the Phantom free fall and then attempt to recover? I see lots of posts about descending too rapidly and getting caught in the "vortex ring". Is there a chance that the craft can recover on it's own by giving it full throttle if there is sufficient remaining altitude? (It seems a bit analogous to a plane stalling out and then recovering.) Just asking, not suggesting anything.

Full throttle makes it worse. The widely accepted way to recover from it is to tilt or roll which ever applies preferable into the direction of the wind.

How about if you cut the throttle for a second or so to eliminate the vortex and then full throttle? I'm not volunteering to try it, just wondering.

Had it happen to me on a fast angled descent while using prop guards.
Nothing I did would bring it out of the fall, and I tried everything I could think of at the time.
Luckily it landed in some small trees and only broke one of the guards.

Not going to use them again unless I'm low to the ground around trees.
