Phantom 4 / Phantom 3 "Enthusiast" Price announced!

If you look at the prototype pics, it's just a prototype.
They may have been using the P3 airframe to just test the motors, camera and gimbal and sensors. The real airframe may look completely different. They may have just been using a tried airframe that's dependable before adapting it to the newl one.
I've seen this in the aviation industry. They try bits of pieces here and there to compare performance and flight characteristics.

hex or quad is the question I think
A Phantom meant as a replacement for the P3 would never be a hex. However, a supplement between the P3 and Inspire may be a hex.

I have to agree with both of you. I could care less for an obstacle avoidance system unless they offer it as an extra option for flying indoors such as auditoriums, and indoor stadiums Exedra. I think that a zoom feature would be one heck of an addition!! I don't know enough about the industry to calculate whether, or not Zoom capability would be possible at that price. This is just my opinion, but it seems to me that they have deliberately left the same Plain Jane landing gear on every model sense the phantom 1 for the most part. I'm not sure if they're doing this because they wanted it to be easily recognizable as a Phantom, or if it's simply one of their selling points as far as being able to launch, and capture your aircraft from the air by leaving it in a handle shaped formation?? I just don't know, but with retractable landing gear there's going to have to be a little bit more than some electromagnets in place to raise and lower the landing gear if you're going to promote attempting to catch and launch the aircraft. Personally I'm researching retractable landing gear for my P3 Pro as we speak just because I do not like the Plain Jane Boxxy handle appearance although as I mentioned earlier it is extremely useful when attempting to catch the aircraft such as on a boat, or over extremely rough terrain. Personally I'll just save my phantom 3 standard with the ITELITE range extender for those types of situations. Now that I have both of them to actually hold and compare, the Standard is much lighter than the Professional, so when flying over water efficiency is always appreciated especially when you have to launch and land on a boat. Weather DJI agrees with it, or not I also believe they're going to possibly be pushed into adding the avoidance sensors just to stay up with the competition. As far as that rinky-dink screen located in the transmitter "under your hands," I cannot even imagine why someone would even attempt to release another model seeing how the DJI App combined with your choice of a large screen Tablet that's connected to a network, (GPS) closer to your eyes as a display screen could make any sense?? My first take at the typhoon was exactly what a good friend of mine told me, and that was that he had too much to do ?, and didn't have time to deal with linking a device, and learning all the parameters of a flight app. In other words some people just want to charge the batteries, turn the switches on and fly. As a matter of fact I just found out that he's never even put an SD card in his camera. Although for the people that are completely alien to this technology They may appear to be a competitor, but as far as I'm concerned DJI is in a class of its own. I think streamlining the body shell with a larger battery / possible motor upgrade, and last, but not least zoom feature would be incredible!! I'm trying to put my drones to work, and I don't want to have to purchase, an inspire just so I can keep customers happy when they ask for me to zoom in on something, and I have to break the news that I don't have that feature without installing the zoom lens, and adding the counter balancing to the Gimble which would require Landing modifying the aircraft, and then taking back off again. all this would have to be edited in also. I can't see how streamlining the shell just a little so it still looks like a phantom, but breakaway from the original phantom 1 appearance when looking at it from the top. I'm not a betting man but I am absolutely positive that the one things we can all look forward to is longer flight time!! I would say somewhere between 30 to 40 minutes. The detachable, interchangeable camera does sound nice I must admit!!!

Yeah saw that but at $1700 it would have to be a Hexacopter with two batteries, extra props, a case, retractable landing gear, 360 degree camera, built in 7" video device, optional FLIR camera that just snaps in, and Intel collision avoidance. So far, the only thing DJI has them beat on is range. Yuneec still haven't figured out how to beat the Lightbridge system.
They have HAD them destroyed in the camera department in the "enthusiasts" or "prosumer" market.

The X3 destroys the CGO2. I don't know much about the CGO3 from Yuneec but what I do know is the CGO4 is a straight up Panasonic GH4 full frame camera so DJIs X5r will hopefully be tops. I for some reason am rooting for DJI to win out. The competition is great for the consumer though in both price and innovation. We would never get things this fast if it wasn't such a large emerging market with so many players trying to get to the top. It's great that all the companies vying for the #1 spot in this emerging markets are all relatively new companies and being assisted by giants like Intel.

I still think SO FAR, DJI makes better products with better components. I am almost certain that the Phantom 4 (Tomato) or whatever it is will be a better system then the Typhoon H but I'll have both the second I can get my hands on them. True worry free obstacle avoidance will be fantastic when it hits. I think it will probably need a generation or two before you can just throw the drone in the air and walk through a forest and have it follow you but what a glorious day when that can be. The Drone Wars are exciting (and that name sounds cool). ;)

I don't know why everyone wants a zoom so bad. Yes, an optical zoom would be nice for certain occasions for convenience but with drones we essentially have a dolly in the sky.

You will obviously see a cinematographer (it is somewhat different for straight photography) but for video/film you would rather push in than zoom. That's why we have dolly tracks so we get a nice organic push, and not a zoom like a 70s porno.

Don't get me wrong, it would be nice to not have to fly to a certain spot just to get the shot so a zoom would be nice for that reason alone but for video, why need a zoom when you can push forward? I know I'm in a minority here but the organic feel of a fly in vs a zoom or a dolly push vs a zoom on the ground. Same difference.

That's why I am so addicted to areal photography and cinematography, it's like I have dolly tracks laid all over the world, just for me.

thats the whole point of obstacle avoidance, so that it doesn't hit.

Hi Phantompilots!, News just popped: The Phantom 3 "Enthusiasts" model costs 1700$ to compete with the Typhoon H ( 1799$ ) I wrote my thoughts about this here. I hope everyone has a nice day!

For that price it better come with two batteries & a case!

:hearteyes::hearteyes: THAT VIDEO OMFG MAJOR DESIGN CHANGES ROLLING IN IF THATS A PHANTOM AND NOT AN INSPIRE
