I see it in the system devices, installed both software and drivers, turn on controller - get the "chime" that it's connected, open the app and nothing.. software won't recognize the controller is connected. Thoughts?

First from where is the gimbal from?
second more likely than not you have a Chinese hack or russian hack program.
Can you provide an up close picture of the controller board?
depending on the board you can get the right drivers from http://www.basecamelectronics.com
And what ever you do never ever press the reset button!!!!
