P3p controller with p4?

My buddy has a p4, i have a p3 pro. My buddy is having distance issues with his phantom and cant get more than 1000' with out video and communications loss (distance not altitude). With my 3 pro i can get over 2 miles out with out any glitch.

Im wondering if its because im running 4.3.2 dji go and he is running the latest dji go firmware. Would it be a problem if i bound my controller and my tablet (running older o.s.) would create a problem?

1. Can a phantom 3 pro TX run a p4?
2. Would this attempt allow me to determine if rolling back the RX and TX on the p4 allow him to attain greater distance?
3. Is there a way to determine all this a different way? Possibly update flight logs and have the pros take a look?

Yes you can use your controller go run the P4. Their are many threads on here from John Locke who has a lot of information on controllers as options for the P4. I am using a P3P controller at the moment whilst my P4 controller is being modified. The standard controller for the P4 is less 'powerful' than yours.
