P3 altitude record 980m

It's an interesting point people are making. Cars are not allowed to drive faster than a certain speed, but they are able to; car manufacturers do not limit the max speed. It is the decision of the driver how fast he drives. Comparing this to DJI's height limitation, it is a valid argument to ask why couldn't it be like that with drones? Especially considering there are millions of cars and just a handfull of drones, so there is so much more damage that can be done (and is done) with cars than with drones.
 
The car comparison is a good one. Many car manufacturers implement speed limiters but only for speeds that are very high (e.g. 155MPH on most German cars) and well in excess of any speed limit. This is similar to what DJI has done with the 500m limit.

Unfortunately, this thread is a strong case for why DJI should limit it even more.
