I know this is off topic, nevertheless, here are 3 videos that I think are incredible. They are 1-2 minutes each and show some amazing copter flying. The author says he is not using a Phantom. Perhaps it is because I am a newbie, but I would not have thought these videos were possible unless you didn't care about crashing.

I know the author was using goggles for FVP which helps, but these are still amazing. I guess it is just a matter of practice, practice, practice.

That is amazing. In the comments of the second one, there is a link to a blog post showing his custom rig. Looks nice. Has second camera for FPV. But, even with a nice rig, that is still some gutsy flying.

Awesome.

I wonder how many times he's rebuilt that quad in the past ; )

Looks like a TBS Disco with DJI arms. The Disco allows you to have a separate FPV camera that can actually allow you some sense of depth perception. I find the GoPro is impossible for depth perception. 20ft looks the same as 2ft. I think you need a flat (non-fisheye) lens but I am just guessing. Anyway, I've been working on navigating around trees and whatnot in FPV and I truly suck at it so far. I am hoping it's the GoPro's fault! That guy also has 7 years of flying apparently.

Do you think the gopro's video mode is affecting you Ian?

P2, Zenmuse H3-2D, GoPro Hero 3+B

Yeah I'd go with that, it's like only having one eye! Although I have little FPV experience, I'm already noticing just how tricky it is to navigate nice and close to objects with the GoPro. Not tried yet, but 'Narrow' would probably be the best view I guess + goggles seem to way to go to maximise concentration and precision.

I'm with Ian. I used 2 full batteries yesterday just trying to fly round and round a big tree out of line of sight and keep the speed and panning constant. In short, I suck at it, but I guess it's like golf......... you hate it but you want to keep practicing.

Those videos are amazing. You could comment on crowd safety, etc as he is flying in crowded places, but it's pretty obvious he is skilled with it, so it's probably no more dangerous than me flying within 1 mile of another person :)
