on and off switch

Has anyone fitted a on and off switch so battery can be connected and battery cover door shut and then just use a switch to switch the phantom on or off
 
It has been tried. It requires a very high amperage switch and adds another point of potential failure.
 
+1. It's the reason you really don't see this very often in RC. What's more, a lot of people pick one of the smaller AC switches, and those fail rapidly with the higher strain from put out by a DC lipo battery.

It's not recommended, but if you're set on a switch, make sure it's at least a 12v DC automotive rated switch.
