Ive been flying my phantom for about 2 weeks now and have had no problems at all.
(now the weird part)

Do I have to download any software? What would I be missing if I don't?
Is the chance of a fly away greater if I do download or if I don't?

I'm loving the thing as is, I'm really having the time of my life the way it is and
I can't ever see needing a change. (well maybe FPV).

well thanks for any feed back.

If its flying well, then leave it alone.
The FW upgrade is for Zenmuse.

Just fly brother, just fly.

I second that emotion!
I'm still using 3.14, and until DJI get things ironed out with its software/firmware, I leaving well enough alone!

Why rock the boat?

Wow, thanks people, good to hear.
I gotta tell ya, this thing has got to be the most fun you can
have with your clothes on, way cooler than the old control line planes I flew
when I was a kid and they were pretty darn cool!

Again, thanks

Firmware wise you dont need to update if everything is fine, but its still good to install the NAZA assistant. This will allow you to make changes to your setup and also do a calibration every now and again. I think by default IOC may be disabled and also the 3rd mode switch is set to ATTI mode same as setting 2. In the assistant you can change this RTH or Manual mode and doing an advanced calibration after any small crash is alwasy a good idea after the NAZA gets a bump.

Is 3.14 the software that comes on Phantoms out of the box?

Depends when a particular Phantom left the factory.
