I was having trouble connecting to my controller every time I went out. Here is what fixes the issue for me.

turn on controller and connect to phantom wifi from your phone, once connected go to wifi settings and find phantom wifi in list and press and hold, when the window opens, select "forget". now turn off controller and turn it back on and reconnect to phantom wifi and wait for the "wifi has no internet access" press the prompt and accept or click yes. There is a check box that asks dont ask again for this network select it and yes. now you should be able to connect without any issues.

Sounds like a P3S? P3A's don't use wifi for control.

Turning on Airplane Mode, enabling WiFi and then connecting to the Phantom solved connection issues for me (Nexus 6P + P3S).

Recent builds of Android automatically use your cell data connection and bypass WiFi when it detects that your WiFi connection has no internet access (even though it shows you as connected to the WiFi network in the status bar). The DJI Go app is unable to connect to the Phantom when this happens. Switching to Airplane Mode and then turning WiFi back on disables your data connection and forces the phone to use the WiFi connection.
