Hi,

Im a noob at multirotors and want to get the Phantom, I've been watching lots of youtube vids etc and am trying to educate myself on this platform and it would be great if you provide the following info

I want to get the DJI Phantom to use for filming for my production company.

How long is its flight time?
How much are spare batteries?
Will it need upgraded rotors?
Does it support live stream or is that dependent on the camera used?
Will I need a separate gimbal or mount?
How long does it take to charge batteries?

Sorry for the questions but its the way my mind works :)

Regards,
Mike

You sound like a prime candidate for a Phantom Vision!

Google it as it's the right ride for you!

How long is its flight time? It depends on the total weight but with full gear and stock battery, perhaps 5-6 minutes. Bare bone will be around 12 minutes.
How much are spare batteries? Stock or after market? Stock is about $25 but for after market it varies with quality and capacity, the cheapest with stock capacity (2200 mAh) is around $7 from Hobby King but good 2650 mAh will set you back around $60.
Will it need upgraded rotors? For heavy load or high altitude locations, you may want to go up to 9" diameter, so it is 9"x4" one.
Does it support live stream or is that dependent on the camera used? Gears dependent.
Will I need a separate gimbal or mount? Gears dependent, stock come with GoPro mount.
How long does it take to charge batteries? Stock charger 45 minutes or so depending on how much left in the pack. For high end charger, perhaps as little as 10 minutes or less but at your own risk!

Thanks for your advice, really appreciate it. Cant wait to get my hands on one!

2 more:

1. What does "Gears dependent mean?
2. Is iPhone the only vendor supported or can I use my laptop or Samsung S3?

This means it will depend of what gear you are using, GoPro with fix mount will require nothing extra.
If you want only up/down movement of the camera, then you will need a single axis gimbal in either auto or manual movement.
But if you want dual axis, then the current Zenmuse H3-2D Gimbal is the best for HERO3 of course.
Other camera will need some modifications.
Also you can buy cheap gimbal like : http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/300925703247?lpid=82
