Hey guys,
I have a Phantom 2 with Gopro Hero 3, and am interested in adding a separate FPS camera for the obvious reasons, but don't know much about the technical side. Therefore I don't really know where to start reading about it. I am not afraid to learn, I just don't know where to start, can someone point me in the right direction please?

Thanks

did you try searching for this topic ?

Yes, and got a bunch of links that did not apply. The search was probably not specific enough, but then again I don't know enough yet to be able to narrow it down.

Getting lots of tips here....

OK, what exactly is IOSD? What is a FPV hub? Do I need them, and why?

I have Google searched these questions and searched on here to no avail. Is there any source that will explain this stuff?

Hi Newb,

I find it hard to believe that simple google searches yielded you nothing. However, I'll help you out. Most people use just one camera for FPV and usually the Go-Pro since the purpose is to capture footage. Another camera would obviously add weight and draw power, so there are two things that will kill your flight time. You didn't mention, but I will presume you have a DJI gimbal which will make it plug and play. Do you want to use goggles or a monitor? For this, I'll presume goggles.

This comes with everything except for a battery to power the goggles. Search around on that link and you should find a battery. The video transmitter that comes with this kit plugs into your Phantom 2 using the wires coming out one of the legs that you probably aren't using now. It's a minor solder job, so don't be intimated.

The IOSD is an overlay that will provide you valuable data when flying FPV. You plug that into the canbus on one of the legs on your Phantom. You can use this cable and not have to solder anything...

For the set up I just mentioned, you will not need the FPV hub, but if you wanted to know what it is...

I did find information on the stuff you mentioned, but nothing on why and how they work. Thanks for the links and info.

agreed, just do the FPV thru the GoPro so that you can see what you're shooting (and see that the GoPro is recording,.etc)

Just look at all the FPV options and go from there.

What about lag time? I have used my Android app some as a viewfinder but the lag is atrocious. Do these other options have any significant lag issue? This is why I have been thinking I need a separate FPV system.

Lag time in 5.8ghz is almost none.

Who sells electronics without a way to charge it? Wow.

I ordered the RX-LCD5802 and I don't have a single charging cable in the house that will fit it. Unbelievable.
