new rookie looking to learn please

thanks wedeliver am just thinking about work
and all the chaos that iv had with satnavs :s lol
telling me am driving in fields and wrong locations
lol

GPS only helps with stable hover and return to home. You can fly without it, just switch to Atti mode if you are concerned.

You will find the quad will drift with the wind, so you will have to work a bit harder, and of course, you will not be able to use RTH, so fly within R/C range at all times.

It is unusual to be unable to get good GPS lock, so it is not normally an issue. Your sat nav problems are probably down to incorrect mapping, not the signal from the satellites!

thanks guys :) my phantom got deliverd today
so I will get it assembled tonight and get
videos up as soon as the weathers good :)

heres a question guys the fc40 camera how do you know its charged ?
and how long do ya charge it ? I did try to turn it on but nothing I do have
it on charge and the red light came on

hi folks I managed to find answers about the cam so
am sorted out there and iv downloaded the fc40 camera app
and the dubwise app :) the props have got me confused though
two black cap and two grey cap self tighting props and Iv noticed
on the phantom the motor tops two of them have a black dot
it this where the black blades go? last night I followed the
locking symbol on the prop to the clock wise and counter clock
wise symbols on the phantom but I am not sure if this is correct?

They will only do up one way. If it tightens up, you have it correct.

Good luck with your first flights! Maybe remove the camera until you have practiced a little, it makes crashing a little cheaper...

Are you Matt? I bought the kindle version a couple months ago.. good to see you active on the forums. I started to read it and then I forgot. it says I am at ll%.

sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread, just thought I would point out that an RC hero is posting here. !!

Glad you have enjoyed it so far!!

I am no R/C hero, but I found there was little information to be found in one place, so I just pulled it all together and added in my first experiences with fly the Phantom, along with my knowledge from flying conventional R/C helis!

an r/c hero excellent :) I never would have known thanks wedeliver :)
thats I got the camera charged up last night noiseboy72 I will leave it behind
when I go for first flight might be the weekend now if the weather's ok
hopefully. I noticed a micro usb port on the bottom of the fc40
do I connect it to the pc to download software? and what is the
best software to download to the fc40? or does the fc40 and pc
automatically download it like other devices these days lol
one wee problem I am havi g is the wifi camera app when I
switch it on the phone it only picks up my internet network
it wont pick up the cam I was gonna take it out side to see
if it picks up ok away from the wireless network?
thanks a lot guys I find google and utube a bit thin
on answer's for some of these questions :)

I just picked up my FC40 today and had a little trouble seeing the camera wifi on my phone. It doesn't pop up like my AR Drone does. I tried two different micro sd cards but I don't think that was the problem. I've connected now three times just testing it and each time took a minute or two just to finally see the device. Make sure your card is seated and just keep at it. Maybe someone here will come along with a better answer.

hi varangian av just tryed mine and the app wont
connect to the cam strange? the cams green light is
flashing and the wifi symbol is flashing green to
but no pic on the app strange???

I got the cam connected I dont think
it connects if u have micro sd card in it
coz when I pulled it out it connected
first time but thats it going anyway :)

Perhaps try a different sd card. It should connect to wireless with sd installed

hi guys just to let ya know I had four flights yesterday
all short range with safetys on and no wifi running
in one of my local parks early am so no one was
around and she flys a dream a whole lot easyer
than my hubsan a was surprised at how she hovers
and how easy she is to fly inverted :) I did get 3 vids
but she dident do anything fancy so might be boring
the videos are on my you tube if you want to see them
just type toorboy in the search I would like to thank
everyone for your advice I would not of managed
so far with out the help thanks guys :)

hi guys I no been able to get out since sunday
due to strong winds and it looks like its gonna
be like this all week :( the battery that can with the
phantom id s 2200mah people say u get 6 minutes
flight with it but my video time is 11:42 and I used
the overlander 2900mah and got about 8 minutes
because it was a short range flights I never heard
any warning beebs from the tx any ideas why?
I did set up the safetys and I have not came out
of atti mode as I am happy flying it that way
and av been to scared to use the gps mode
because of fly aways I did calibre before
the first flight how long do the batteries
last? I have decided to used a stop watch to
time until I used the wifi app on my phone

Good for you learning to fly on Atti first!

So many never even bother, but it is much close to "real" R/C helicopter flying, where you have to allow for wind and fly with a lot more precision.

Oh, and you can go a lot faster as well :)

Battery life sounds about right. Because the quad uses a lot less energy in Atti - as it is not attempting to correct so much, you will get better flight times. The warning beeps from the TX are for TX batteries I believe, so you are looking for the lights on the quad to monitor battery level.

Flying fast uses less power than hovering, as the blades generate more lift once you are moving, so need to turn more slowly to maintain altitude. You need to overcome wind resistance, but this is minimal up to 20MPH or so.

hi noiseboy72 I am totally enjoying the atti mode its the exact same as flying the hubsan x4
except its better on the fc40 due to the fact I can see it lol I got the wifi cam app going but I am happy
the way it is with the wifi off for now and using the sd card for recording I am gonna keep it that way
for a good few shot before I mess around with the gps mode as I feel safer if im at the controls
its just getting the weather right when am off from work which I cant coordinate lol
my boss was asking me to bring it in and do some video of our site but I feel to many
lampposts flags cars plus the fact its not ment to fly in built up areas
but she is a joy to fly :D like flying a feather I have my max distance set at 133m
for height and distance but she only been as high as 20m to 30m so far till
Im happy i have a feel for the old girl :)

hi guys that's ten flights under my belt now some ok ;)
and a couple of good ones :D I am only flying in atti mode with wifi running
I have not used the gps :? thing is what is the max time for these batteries?
with the phantom battery I am giving it 6:30 minutes max
with the overlander 2900 I am giving it 8 - 8:30 minutes max
as I don't want a crash with a dying battery
I have ordered two more of the phantom
2200mah's for now and when I am flying am constantly
checking time religiously to make sure I don't fail lol
I don't want to stick one of these massive batteries in the fc40
one of my first flights I got 11:42 on video say 11 minutes tops
but I don't want to push my luck lol
any help would be much appreciated
thanks guys :D

hi people I have another question? due to a lot of bad
weather I cant get out but I did buy nine inch props for my phantom
I got eight props for £12 from china but I have been reading that
there are cheap Chinese unbalanced junk so I haven't used them
for fear of loss of control can anyone have a look at the photo
and tell me are these junk props or legit props???
