Greetings. I'm one of those lucky ones who received a Phantom for Christmas. It came as a complete surprise, but my wife apparently listened to my mindless babble about quadcopters for the last year and got me a new Phantom 1.1.1. Less than a month later I almost lost my little bird when the battery gave out over a pond with a thin skim of ice. Fortunately, my neighbor has a rowboat and an adventurous teenager, so with a little chopping of the ice we were able to effect a rescue. Extra bonus: the camera was still running and pointed at the open water, so there was good video of the rescue from the Phantom's perspective. See the video here: Phantom on Ice - YouTube | DJI Phantom Forum I'm enjoying reading lots of helpful ideas here, and maybe someday I can contribute as well. I'm an instrument-rated private pilot, so I do appreciate the interests of the aviation community in preserving everybody's safety.
