I just use a relatively inexpensive inverter with the normal charger. That way I can plug in a laptop as well...

Yup, a 300 watt inverter, more than enough, is about $30..1/3 the cost, and like he said, does other things too

How long does it take to charge the batteries with an inverter

Same as it takes when you plug in at home. All the inverter does it take 12v DC and turn it into AC at whatever your local mains voltage is (UK: 230v, US 110v, etc).

Should take the same time as it would if you plugged the charger in at home as the inverter outputs 240v

This one's cheaper and gets better reviews... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00H ... automotive

USB ports for your range extender and phone, too, if you're making a day of it.

EDIT: Note, not a recommendation - I just put "150w inverter" into Amazon to see what's about.
