It would appear that the Naza GPS mode is similar to the non-Naza Vision mode.

Are they really exactly the same, or is different firmware being executed?

If the firmware is not literally the same firmware, then it can have different
performance, response, control gains, and even different functions, and
different bugs or deficiencies, like fly-away bugs.

Since the quite valuable Home Lock mode is not available in Vision mode,
one feels compelled to move to Naza mode just for that feature.

It would be nice if the default Naza mode of flight control parameters
was identical to Vision mode, so that the transition could be easily made.

Or, simply allow activation of S2 in Vision mode, very useful for choosing
the Intelligent Orientation Control mode: Off, Course Lock, or Home Lock.

Other than losing the very nice Reset-Home function, and
being able to actually use S1 and S2 for something useful,
what is different when making the transition from the mostly
Beginner-Only Vision mode to the Naza GPS mode?

Detailed documentation on the P2V's particular Naza-like
operating mode seems to be, for now, not yet available.

Any surprises making the transition?

Any details of the Naza-like mode, please?

Any good reason to NOT make the transition, other than
the fact that one could accidently flip a switch?

Since I am a beginner, and I am struggling with learning enough to make
this mode-change decision, any insights and suggestions are welcome.

I have so many questions around this as well. I am flying in the stock configuration but would love to try ATTI mode and Manual

Unless you are well skilled at flying quadcopters, I would suggest avoiding Manual mode.
At least master Attitude (Atti) mode first.

Learning with the slightly smaller, but MUCH lighter Quad from Hobby People,
my first 30 flights have all ended in crashes - not something that you want your
MUCH more expensive P2V to experience.

The DJI wiki has full details on the NAZA here: http://wiki.dji.com/en/index.php/Naza-M-V2 Scroll down to the bottom to access the details.

However the Vision's NAZA mode is described by DJI themselves as NAZA-like. The only NAZA functions we get are:

Naza LED patterns;
Selectable function on 3rd position of S1 (failsafe or manual);
Atti mode available on 2nd position of S1;
GPS mode on S1, with S2 in "off" is identical to Vision GPS mode except LED lights;
Activate IOC on S2 (Off, Course Lock, Home lock) - resetting home position is done by flicking S2.

With both switches in the uppermost position you won't notice anything different except the LEDs will flash differently than you are used to. I think DJI play down the NAZA mode to prevent complete novices getting themselves in too deep too quickly and not learning the basics of flight before getting themselves confused with Course Lock, or accidentally switching to manual.

DISCLAIMER: I'm going from memory as I'm not near my Vision right now to fire up the Assistant and check there isn't anything I've missed - but if there is then I don't use it! :D
