hey, I was thinking of going the "other" way. I have a 5VDC cell phone power bank sitting around so I could boost it to 12V no problem - plenty of cheap boost dc/dc's on ebay. But will the remote work from 5V?

it should work with 5v , but u r not gonna get the same range as u would with 6v .. cuz 6v = 4 new AA batts .
