I am at a loss to understand why I can't start motors by using the Stick's in and down routine. The only way I seem to be able to fly now is by using the take off icon in the DJI app.

Any ideas?

A few questions for you:

1) What happens when you attempt to use the CSC to turn on your motors?
2) Did you try calibrating your remote controller in the DJI Pilot app?

The CSC doesn't appear to start the motors

Yes, I have calibrated the RC a few times now, and no luck.

When up in the air, the phantom flies fine.

Has CSC ever worked for you? If so, when did is stop working? If not, how are you doing it?

It did, and it has stopped working since I had a crash, during which I broke the gimbal arm. I replaced the camera and gimbal unit, recalibrated IMU, recalibrated RC, recalibrated gimbal. I now have to take off using the take off icon.

Are you certain that you're moving the sticks in their full range of motion during the remote controller calibration? If so, then the issue might be elsewhere. It would probably be best to contact DJI for help.
