Maplin seems to have picked up on the increase in RC popularity - it's growing because anyone can fly one of the new generation, gyro stabilised, GPS equipped aircraft.

Anyway, they have decided to publish a guide to flying. It seems like it's their way of denying any liability but it is useful for newbies nonetheless.

Maplins have never had any in stock to sell yet anyway have they

Looks OK to me. Information appears to be correct and is clearly communicated. They have similar shelf labels next to the empty stock area for the FC40...

The FC40 has been discontinued. If you plan to buy one, you might want to buy one ASAP from anywhere you can. Not sure if retailers will get any more stock. I tried Maplin yesterday and the nearest one to me which had an FC40 (Literally 1 left) was 60 miles away. I then went to Marionvillemodels(.com), where I got my Vision Plus and they had no stock. They said the FC40 has been discontinued. I then went to Amazon(.co.uk) and found just 1 FC40. But there was a big message saying 'This item is under review' so that was a no go for me. Finally I checked Ebay (Don't like buying electronics from there) and found someone here in London selling some. Ordered one right away.

Its factually incorrect in any case.

Which part(s)?

Its a dumbed down version of whats actually allowed, for instance the part where it says you need to keep 50m away from people and cars (no 5) is incorrect - it should read (not under your control) - eg if these people are aware and you have permission then it does not count.
you need to read the FULL document as published by the CAA - not a Maplins highlight version.

See here :-
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2009 ... tents/made

http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?c ... il&id=6174

Parts 22 section 166 & 167 are the parts that apply to the Phantom.

These are the current recommendations in force.

Its good I suppose as a 'do I really want one with these restrictions' pre sales heads up.
