My 4k pro drone crashed in the water in the Patapsco river near the Key bridge in Maryland. I was unable to retrieve it. My own stupid fault, expensive lesson learned.

I made a rig that would take a fishing line out while flying the drone. I never thought about the fishing pole running out of line, but that's what happened. I was flying the drone and my daughter's boyfriend was handling the fishing rod. Everything was going great when he said "My line". the fishing pole ran out of line, and he pulled the fishing rod, the drone took a nose dive into the water. We tried to reel it in, but after a while it just let go.

My question is that it does have my faa registration on it, do i have to notify someone that this was lost ?

Thanks

It's final resting spot. ;(

This is from the FAA web site...

Q29. What happens if I sell my sUAS?

A. You will soon be able to update the information in your account. We strongly encourage you to remove your registration number from the sUAS before the transfer of ownership.

It sucks, and I was pissed, but i didn't yell and scream. I think that scared him more, than if I would have thrown a fit. But what are you going to do.
I mean we know that these drones will crash, and things will happen to them. It sucks when you are the one to blame for the crash.
Luckily I have a great wife, she let me go ahead and order a new Phantom 3 pro. Ordered it through Amazon with 12 month financing.
