When you're descending and have the left stick down why doesn't it turn off the motor while in the air? Does this have to do with the altitude and home point? Not that I want to have my motors off while in air but just trying to understand the mechanism of action that turns the motors off.

both sticks down will cut motors off and you don't want that

It has to do with bird sensing it is descending. Once it senses it is no longer descending (landed) and the left stick is held down for 3 seconds it will then stop the motors.

I see, thanks for the info.

Not quite ...
Both down and in or both down and out
Easy to test with props off to see what does and what doesn't

I have read that any down position on both sticks starts CSC.

My P3 pro shuts off with only right stick between 3 - 5 O'clock position when on the ground

Perhaps you're thinking of the Phantom 2. It has more CSC combinations than the Phantom 3.
