I takeoff from my case (not the stock, but a Case Club Compact), and I always hand catch. I find this to be the most efficient. If I got a backpack for extended hiking, it would have to be a hard shell - as I don't trust a soft sided to protect my kit - and I would figure out a way to takeoff from it.

Have you seen the foldable landing mats? What a total waste of money. My mate bought one and it is useless.

His blows away from prop wash so he uses tent pegs but he usually loses his.
I have one of the 30-inch ones and it works great for me. Prop wash doesn't bother it, so I only need to stake it down if it's really windy out. It came with three stakes and I made a point of not losing them.

Somewhere, somehow there's a FAA reg. that prevents Medivacing Garden Gnomes...

The RAF already have this covered. I enclose part of a document.
