I've tried various foam ideas and none of them worked well. All of them interfere with the flight and most of them make the craft top heavy and want to flip upside down when landing on water. Yes it can be done but with a lot of risk. The negatives over-power the positives in my experience. Besides all that, my aircraft doesn't go down. So what am I worried about?

An actual landing platform would be far more suitable.

However I am the type of pilot who prides himself on a smooth landing. I consider it a skill, so hand catching is something I rarely do - and only when the conditions or terrain call for it.
