When I play back video taken in 4K the video is very jerky and frozen at times but if I use 1080 all is well. Is this because of the computer I use to play back?

Yes, most likely the computer and/or media player you are using. Mine doesn't handle 4k well either.

Either your computer is not up to it if playing locally - or if you mean Youtube vids - your network is struggling to stream it.

    yep, it is the pc>

the files involved in 4k video are huge compared to 1080.
The pc that works great for internet and office stuff usually will not have the memory, video, or cpu needed for 4k

some players will be more efficient
but overall if pc if more than 3 or so years and you want to do 4k video and editing.
it is better to go new than try to update old one

My computer is less than a year old. What is the best media player? I am playing directly by cable from the P4 to the computer.

Before having a custom computer built I used a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and it had no issues with 4k.
