Tom, I'm assuming that you're referring to the mounts I'm selling on Shapeways. Have you given it a test flight yet?
As for wifi range; I've pulled the back casing off my Samsung NX1100 and had a look at the wifi antennas. They look stock standard. My bet is Sony does the same thing. Drilling a hole in your exterior casing should give you the ability to do a similar mod to the ones people are doing on their Vision wifi repeaters.
Of course, it's delicate work and you want to be very careful not to fry your camera's board, but it's not impossible.
Furthermore, the camera's antennas are usually the weak point, since they're the ones sending images to your mobile device. The other direction just needs to send the shoot signal, and you can get USB wifi cards with replaceable antennas to work on an Android if you're desperate for range.
