Lets wait to see how it does in a breeze compared to P4 and how the photos look on the back end. The mavic will be a great aerial gopro.

You gotta love the innovation though. DJI just keeps topping themselves over and over again.

No, the Phantom is still a fine product and I won't be replacing my P3P anytime soon. There's an extensive ecosystem already in place for the Phantom lineup and great third-party app support (which I can only hope will be the case with the Mavic as well).

I am definitely interested in adding a Mavic though as a more portable UAS; it ought to be far easier to carry on an airplane as well as take on hiking trips.

I've been there before. Been flying a long time. The Inspire 1 killed my S800 EVO and S1000. The Phantom has seen it's days. I do believe however that there will be some awesome sales on in stock phantom 4's.

So, you think this is really the end of the line for the Phantom series? I'm thinking the Mavic won't be any more of a Phantom killer than the Inspire 1. It's likely a different tool for a different job.

I agree just a different tool and a nice addition to the collection. No one drone can do it all. It's not going to handle wind as good and not being able to use anything bigger then your phone to view it is kind of a bummer if you like using a iPad

Look at it this way, if you already own a Phantom, you're probably going to see some good deals come up soon on lightly-used accessories/parts.

I disagree. The Phantom to me couldn't compete with the Inspire 1's dual operators which you have to have for Professional work. The Mavic is faster, has longer battery life, longer range, smaller footprint, same camera and offers all of the same features and more as the Phantom 4 at a lesser price. Of course I'm basing all of this off of specs but if it lives up to those I definitely think the Phantom will be at end of life.

I guess my question would be to the customer. If the two were lined up side-by-side and you had the money for either one which one would you pick?

Again all speculation for discussion purposes only.

A Phantom is cheaper than a Mavic.

I'm already designing you a way to use your iPad Mini. Don't think I can make it happen for an iPad Air or larger though.

I don't think so. At least not one that is comparable to the Mavic. The only one that will compare to a Mavic is the Phantom 4. And it's starting price is $1199. The mavic is $999 with the remote and basic set up.
