I just purchased an Asus Nexus 7 tablet because it was recommended on the tablet list posted by drone forum for DJI. When I try to download DJI Go it says that the app is incompatible with this tablet. It does connect to Wi-Fi and it has a location setting so I assume it has GPS as well. This will be paired with a Phantom 4. What am I missing?

I have one but have not tried to use it. Do you know if you have a gen 1 or gen 2 version? If gen 2 then try looking for the .apk file for the go app and side load it.

Try sideloading the DJI GO APK like this.

Actually, it loaded and connected! Thanks! Now...the video feed is incredibly slow. Does that have anything to do with the fact that I'm inside testing it out? Or does this thing just not work well. My small phone works fine.

That wouldn't matter. As WWK888 noted, it's a common issue with slower devices.

I ended up returning it....minus a % restocking fee. That there is some bullsh*t. Beware of Deal Group USA - Amazon Marketplace.
