I'm happy with the performance of my 1.6 fw p3, but couldnt help wonder could i ring out more distance if i tried the 1.19 which has much buzz among distance obsessed, battery hungry, flight time whores like myself!
I got p3p w/ 1.19 fw and my first couple flights were disappointing since i was expecting a faster gps mode and didnt notice it. My return trips were actually discouraging cause i was getting about 10 mph LESS than what I'm used to with my 1.6 a/c!
So here is some side by sides, same path, same altitude, speeds recorded at approx. same dist. From home. And 10 min. apart. So pretty fair comparison.

I, too, recently bought a 1.19 fw P3P for the same reason. Initially, my iPad Air wouldn't work properly with it, showing no telemetry, so I used it with my iPhone 6+ and it showed 1.1.9 in the About screen. I got tired of the small screen, so tried my iPad Mini. It worked, too. I then tried the Air2 again. It worked, too! However, on all 3 devices, the aircraft firmware now displays 1.43+, even though I never updated the firmware on the aircraft. Perhaps, DJI GO only recognizes 1.19 as 1.43 and imposes the 1.43 firmware limitations on it, including speed throttling downwind.

You didnt have the SD card in for the 1.19 test. Thats clearly why it was slower. ;-)

Interesting comparison. Thanks for posting it. Its great to see data like that.

I dont recall 1.19 being particularly fast, but I do recall it being much more stable in a few areas. For example, hovering was amazing, autolandings (for demos) were soft and smooth, and I never lost FPV. Ever.

Also, I never had any of the curved horizon issue that a few people noted with 1.19.

Hovering on 1.19 is badass it stays within an inch or two where is my 1.6 can sway 8 to 10 inches

Today is a very calm wind, on 1.19 even with the wind helping on the ride home it almost seems to be throttle locked in atti mode. I flew home two days ago with a 12 mph wind helping me and atti mode and only got about 43 mph. That's just not dependable when coming home from a 6+ mile trip, i'll give it a couple more chances but it looks like I'll be doing all my long-range stuff with the 1.6

I agree. Not to sound overly dramatic, but hovering was astoundingly accurate with 1.19. That accuracy was mostly lost with 1.2x and later however.

The hovering is still good as you noted, but once you've had great its hard to accept less. Human nature I guess.

As I remember....when we took delivery last May, those P3's actually had Inspire1 fw 1.1.0 I do believe. Then in 2 days there was another update which it seemed like they were at times coming each day for awhile.

I saved some of the firmware versions plus all the Beta versions I installed.
1.1.0
1.1.0006
1.1.6
1.1.7
1.1.8
1.1.9
1.2.6.
1.3.2
1.4.1
1.4.3
1.5.003
and more.

So any experience with 1.19 being faster than the "throttle locked" newer fw's Frank? I'm not really trying to debunk a myth hear, i'm just trying to understand why my results dont match the myth and i guess i'm trying to see if one or two claims coupled with some pretty impressive distances started a rumor that 1.19 is the fastest and therefore best FW for running distance? Because with everything i try i rely on my own experience and so far 1.19 isn't as fast as i heard it was[emoji41]

Dirty. I think your comparison is good but I think that since there was hardly any wind, your results did not show the difference. If I fly out at 25mph I return around 40mph in GPS mode. That's on my P3 with 1.1.9. Same conditions I would be locked-in at 35mph with my other P3 running 1.4.

Yeah, thats a fair observation and i think based on my first couple flights w/ 12mph winds the results i was trying to show wouldve been more drastic. I havent wrote it off yet but i did start this thread so i could hear ACTUAL results/experiences from other pilots and responses exactly like you gave Ed, thankyou.
But so far its simply NOT as fast as my other two p3's
