Hi everyone. I am new to quadcopters. I just got a Phantom 4 and love it. To start with, let me say that the Dji manual completely sucks and is useless. Can some one please tell me how to read the map mode on the bottom right of the Dji go app. What is its orientation? What do the symbols mean? How can I use it properly? Any and all comments would be very helpful. Thanks

You are H (home point - unless you change it).
Phantom is Red Triangle. Pointy nose the front of phantom.
Red line is the shortest distance back.

Take some time to familiarise the map. Zoom in or Double tap the map to enlarge and fly around yourself to get a better understanding.
And if the orientation is a few degrees off, recalibrate the compass on the SMART phone/device.

. I use an iPad air 2... How would I calibrate the compass on that device?
