How does a battery mod actually work?

Im talking technicals here. I dont really know much about electricity etc.

Are the additional batteries your adding, charging the phantom battery or is it just adding cells?

How does the intelligent battery handle this? will there be errors that healthy drones cannot see because the additional batteries are not "intelligent"?

will the battery status in the Go app still be accurate as far as percent left and voltage?
