How do I tell which firmware I have

I am a complete N00b so please excuse my first stupid question.

I have a new Phantom 3 pro ordered up and it will be here in a few days. I am reading as hard as I can and see many people having issues with updating the firmware.

So my first question is how do I know what firmware is on the controller, the quad, and the batteries before I start?
