Horizon FPV Antennas

hey guys we have two new antennas for the Phantom 2 and Phantom 2
The BH 90 Deg ( fits to the UAV ) has a 10 deg 'look down' do send back 5.8 GHz RC control on the P2V or video on the P2,
so the PV2 could have a single SP and the BH 90 deg at the same time , 360 deg and a beam of 9 dB.
the other new one is a dual 5.8 and 2.4 GHz for them both , can be used on the pilot end or even on the UAV for long range.
in the phantom 2 vision it fits to the extender and then you feed the 2,4 and 5.8 GHz to it at the same time.
saves weight , dual function on one antenna , the same size as the BH Micro 2.4 but with 5.8 as well both 9 dB.

still under trails so when tested we can release them. see them first here guys

Why is there a shield plate on the first antenna?

do you mean the 5,8 GHz one with 90 deg ? as that the mounting tab to fix under the UAV with Velcro. and the angle to 'look down' to the RC pilot control angle.
when th uav is in the air.

OK, got it !

Received my Super kit for the P2 today. Really please with the kit and Will was excellent with replying to emails and answering questions. Highly recommended and a great company to deal with.

Not had a chance to test but here are a few photos of the fitting and a couple of comments:-

5.8 BH
The 5.8 BH would be better if it had a straight connector rather than a 90 degree elbow. Had to do a 90 degree bend to get it to point correctly. When I ordered, the photo on the website showed a straight connector so Will must have changed the design after I ordered mine :-(

2.4 BH
I wanted to mount the 2.4 BH square on the back of my monitor sun shade, but it has little plate at the back (not the connector) which meant I could not get enough grip to stick it down. So to get maximum surface area I mounted it like a diamond and it is now held on solid.

2.4 SP
It's larger than I was expecting so not really sure where the best place is to mount it. Have placed it at the back between the landing legs. Made the splice for the pigtail inside the phantom as I did not want to try and remove the connector from the receiver.

5.8 SP
Ordered one with a 90 degree connector but when mounted it was right behind the zenmuse. Made a little S bend to move it out sideways a bit. Will have to have a play to see how best to fit to get maximum coverage/range.

The only thing I want to add is another 5.8 SP for the second input on the BP monitor and another 2.4 SP or omni to put on the controller when I don't have the monitor attached and can't use the 2.4 BH.

I will do some testing later and let you know how it goes.

With a helical pointing out the back how is it going to work when your flying toward yourself ?

it just uses the other 360 deg SP as it is also on there. We will obviously be doing the necessary tests before we release it to the big bad world . less weight and all in one .... great for you P2V guys .

this is an option ... Will

rotation is ok as its LHCP Will

good position . brave of you doing a splice , should be OK though . Will

that is fine the semi rigid and will allow this with little effect . Will

No issues with the soldering. Pretty much solder everyday as part of work. The only thing I am not too happy about is that the joint is not shielded for about 5 mm inside. Did it the same way as you did in your video here:-
https://vimeo.com/88612241

May order another pigtail and see how hard it is to connect directly to the RX. Not looked yet but some members have had issue removing the glue and broken the RX.

yes well its swings and roundabout here , destroy the receiver board trying to get the glue off or splice the cable.if you want to be fussy ,Once you apply the epoxy on you get some RG316 shield and slide it over the joint , then solder ground one end.

Yeah good idea. I left a few inches slack so have a bit to play with if I want to redo it.

Going out to do a quick test in an hour. Can't wait to see the difference they make (I hope  )

Well that was disappointing. Could only get 400m out before losing control signal and FS kicked in. On the plus side video was crystal clear even when the Phantom rotated and headed back home.

Will is there any way to test the antennas with a meter to see if they are okay?. I have got to assume that the annntena on the TX is okay as if that was not connected I doubt if I would have made it out to 400m :D My guess is that there is an issue with the 2.4 on the Phantom and the standard antenna on the front leg was doing all the work?

Also how critical is the pointing of the BH?. I flew in a straight line at 60m height with the BH pointed at the phantom the whole time within a few degrees.

**** got further range on stock :-(

Think I found the issue. The cable supplied to go from the TX to the BH has a dead short in it  Surprised I made it out 400m

Not impressed with quality control and I am grounded until I can get a replacement. Hope Will can test and send one tomorrow.

[Edit]
Argggg Hope I have not broken the transmitter by having it switched on with a dead short across the output. I know with the VTX you can damage it if you power up without an antenna connected.

Hey guys just doing the short video on a mod to the P2V for 2 x Horizon SP antennas for TRUE LHCP on RC control
video up shortly just working on it . There is no need to open up the UAV to do this mod.
up soon guys.. ( this will also work with the P2 just different antennas ....) here is what it looks like when done

Camera end.
https://www.dropbox.com/sc/ddf5h1ogwi6qfnv/Ke2VIa07Ro
Battery end
https://www.dropbox.com/sc/0w02rnz9fw4x4re/ucrIvPFGua

the battery end is done a little longer for a future addition to the P2V soon....

Hi Guys

I did the 5.8ghz mods to the phantom and installed the 2 pinwheels. I tried the method Pcdeveloper showed in his video. Either Im really bad at soldering, or my iron wasn't hot enough, but I struggled, I ultimately land up cutting off the dipoles as the one was loose to start with.
Im not sure how to test my connections. and suggestions? I do not have a tester? (wasn't a pretty looking result)
Incase Ive damaged the transmitter board, Id like to order a new one.. preferably without the antennas glued on ( I tried removing them with a craft knife, but believe me.... I don't think its possible to get them off.
I looked for a spare board, but not sure of the correct part. Any suggestions who to buy the one Im looking for from.. sans the antennas glued on?
Cant wit to get the 2.4 ghz antennas and try the whole system. My Dronexpert gimbal arrived back today ( brilliant service by the way).. so now can complete all the mods
