Well... because it's a secret. If it's a secret military base or installation why would they mark it as such? I would not think that was a great idea but dunno...

Top Secret and hidden as I said are two different things. For example, Skunkworks. Everybody knows its there. But you aren't gonna do a flyover. HAARP site up in Alaska is another one. Its even masked out from Google Earth/Maps. But people know its there. ( Google Maps )

Gotcha... I think we are getting caught up on semantics... The bases that everyone knows about are by definition "not secret." They might require secret and TS clearances to work there and they may have missions that are TS... but they are not secret. Not if you know about them and are posting their location on the web without the guys in black hoodies showing up and waving the memory wipe wand in front of you. I would call those bases restricted. Installations that are secret are ... secret.

Ok... If it is a base that is restricted. Then yes it should show up as such. If it is a secret installation then it would be just plain stupid to put it in the application because once you tell everyone where it is it isn't secret anymore.
The base where I used to work isn't listed on the map.

I am within the 5 mi radius of an airport. Granted, its kind of a Podunk airport, but I called the local constable (that's what they call cops down here). He really didn't understand what I was asking to do, just go down to the beach and fly, so he said he would get in touch with the city attorney, and he would call me back. He did state that no aircraft could fly lower than 500', except on take off and landing at the airport. The city attorney never called. I have continued to go down to the beach and fly, fly in the rv park I'm in, and have been thinking of going over across the road, a huge open area, and flying. I'm 2.5 mi from the center of the NFZ circle, but my app doesn't restrict me from flying, the cops apparently don't care, and the city attorney has no interest. BTW, I downloaded the Hover app to find NFZ I was in, but I hadn't downloaded it, I would have never known I was in one. Apparently it doesn't make any difference in my case though.

Huh? What was I about to say. I had something but... Hmm. Can't seem to remember. Where did that guy with the suit go?

Well, as one who has rambled up accidentally on a "secret" location and was very rapidly escorted away by what seemed at the time to be a battalion of armed SP and "interviewed", I know what you mean. At the time I wished I had packed extra shorts when I topped the hill. Lets just say I didn't go 4-wheelin around there anymore and I have never told anyone where I was (frankly, I am not overly sure exactly where I was because it wasn't where I thought I was).

But a "top secret" base isn't necessarily one that isn't known was my point. Hidden or secret bases are invariably top secret but a top secret base isn't necessarily hidden.

10-4.. I think you have avoided the men in black.

All I can say is WTF??? OK, it's my first pots here, just joined to find help. I just got my P3 Adv yesterday and tried to fly it today in my back yard & got the No Fly Zone message. Funny thing is I live in a rural area and the closet airport is well over 5 miles away and it's a local prop hop airport. I took my kid's P3 Standard out and can fly it, but the Adv is dead. Not happy I dropped $800 on it and can't fly it with my kids. Sorry to rant on my first post, call me a troll if you must, but I'm not too happy with DJI right now.

Sooooo, would I lose FPV feed if I flew over? Maybe for just a moment?

At 400 feet, of course. ;)

Can you return for a refund?

I live here (red dot) and have no problems flying even next to the Mesa airport. Took my drone in the car (without props) and started it, gave it gas, motors reeved up...

Its entirely possible (likely rather) that they have a RDF which will pinpoint YOU (or at least your controller). Then they will jam the RF signal. Probably EMF your drone. It drops like a rock. Cleanly shaved guys in black suits roll up behind you in black SUVs and you disappear.

I have a question... there is an old, out-of-commission military base about 20 miles away. Rumor has it that it's a No-Fly zone.

Is there a link to a map somewhere that would let me look at the area before I drive 20 miles to find out that I can't fly???

Thanks,

Bob

Guys, private pilot here. You have a responsibly to understand airspace. Maybe not legally yet, but it is the responsible thing to do. For further clarification the FAA does not have any secrets. Please read about all of these: MOAs, TFRs, restricted areas commonly noted as R followed by a number (R34A, etc.), class g, e, d, c, and b airspace. If you can understand how all of these function you will be doing yourself and pilots everywhere a favor.

I don't know how dji software works but TFRs are in a constant state of Flux, they MUST be checked religiously before every flight as they can pop up anywhere.

MOAs and restricted area have operational times where they are active. Try to research this and understand how to comprehend Zulu time so you can know for sure when this is.

You can NEVER enter a restricted Area, TFR, class D, C, or B airspace without ATC authorization, which you can only get talking on the radio. MOAs are at the pilots discretion.

Use skyvector.com

It's the easiest way to have all of the information presented to you. It's an informational website that does a good job. The true official source will always be Lockheed Martin flight services at 1800-WXBRIEF

Thanks, George Race. It looks like my field is not on there... neither is a small airport that is close to my RC Flying Field.

Thanks again,

Bob

I could, but I bought it directly from DJI so I'd have to send it back to China, don't really want the hassle. There is a site mentioned on pg1 that shows the DJI NFA maps and allows you to request to fly I the yellow area. I went through the process and was able to fly it today. I have 3 days to fly in my yard before needing to do the process again. BTW l am 4.9 miles away from a recreational airport per DJI so I shouldn't have had an issue as that size airport isn't restricted per DJI. There was a DJIgo app update yesterday that states it fixes the NFZ issues, so we'll see if it works Wed. The rev is 2.5.1.
