Do not send in for repair because it will take too much time, money.

Here is the quicker and cheaper way to get your gimbal replaced for your DJI Phantom 2 vision plus.

Step 1. Get a brand new phantom 2 vision plus online with an extra battery for $1369.
Step 2. Detach the brand new gimbal with camera from the newly purchased and put it on old vision plus aircraft to replace the broken one
Step 3. Sell on ebay the following items separately for the price suggested:
-1 brand new smart battery for $159
-1 vision plus long range Wifi Externder for $199 - in high demand from vision owners
-1 brand new DJI Phantom 2 aircraft with controller for $799
that all adds up to $1157 and your brand new gimbal and camera only costs you $146

Step 4. Sell your broken gimbal with camera for at least another $100 and you will end up losing almost nothing for a brand new parts and only takes less than a week to do these things.

what's the likelyhood of actually getting $800 for that second hand phantom(without gimbal/camera) and controller?

You sell it as new not used. If you didn't use it and put in the description that it hadn't been turned on or flown but was used for parts I could see someone buying it for $750

Who's going to buy a brand new P2V+ without a camera/gimbal? It's useless and you can't even retro fit it with a go pro and zenmuse gimbal because of the 5.8Ghz incompatibility. Then you have to muck around spending more money to get the FPV to work...
You can buy a brand new Phantom2 for $599 and fit it with anything you like.

It was a good theory though...

Inside Phantom 2 vision plus body, I believe there are 2 IC board that worth money: Gimbal controller and camera wifi module.
Besides, the 5.8 Ghz controller will have less interference from its 2.4 Ghz video link and more reliable, that's why DJI decided to go with 5.8 Ghz

You can also do it this way: Aircraft body only: $499 http://www.ebay.com/itm/DJI-Craft-R...t=US_Surveillance_Gadgets&hash=item3a907424c2
Battery: $159
5.8 Ghz DJI Controller: $149 http://www.ebay.com/itm/DJI-Innovat...Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item258f16e444
Battery Charger: $39.9
2 sets of Genuine DJI Props: $50
Total: $900

Or just buy the second one to keep for parts. Likely hood of crashing eventually is pretty high. Would rather have what I need to fix on hand then trying to scramble in the future :D
