Yes, the directional antenna will give you better range, but the standard whip antenna should be good enough. I did the same mode and am happy with the results using a 7db antenna.

One thing to note, the first adapter cable I used did not work well with the repeater and I had to switch to a different type. So do a range test to see how well it works, before you schedule some important recording and find that it's not what you had hoped.
