I was screwing around with the idea of building a mini-helipad and before I knew it, I was buying hardware. I'm such a geek...
This is two foot by two foot (made from 3/4 inch birch plywood) and has a handle on the bottom for easy carrying. Just tuck it under your arm while holding the handle and off you go. It weighs just under fourteen pounds, so it's lighter than my loaded case... I'm still farting around with the paint job and haven't decided on what else to do with it. Bunch of ideas... We'll see...

I actually considered LED landing lights... but... on further consideration thought it a bit over the top...

Do it!!!!

Nothing is over the top! I love to go overkill with my modifications!

Looks like a fun project. Well executed. I see you use the Vision props on your Phantom. Like 'em??

FWIW, three points define a plane. Three wiffle balls on the underside would be lighter and less likely to teeter-totter on uneven ground.

Ha-ha, that's definitely awesome! A windsock a couple yards away would be cool, so would an LED edge-lit pad coming in for a landing on-camera at dusk!

Do u add the PVC pipes at the bottom to float the helipad and attempt water takeoffs and landings?

Nope... I just happened to have that stuff around. I wanted to keep it off the ground a bit and make it easier to level out. Also if the ground is damp I didn't want to have wood sitting on it and have it soak up the moisture...

   Now this guy's got me looking at LED systems... It's a long way to spring. This thing might have a conning tower on it if it's a boring winter... :)

That really looks nice, I'll bet if you posted a few on eBay they'd sell out.
