Have you fell from the sky? Safety question

Purpose of this question is to improve safety for people and property on the ground. When you fell from the sky what type of radius should be clear below aircraft? In other words did you notice side drift with the fall? FAA is 50m horizontally. Would that recommendation have kept people and property safe? Personally just want to know for my own liability if I am within the 50 meters.
