The motors are not mounted on a flat surface, but on 4 raised posts, which are already susceptible to cracking under
the forces applied by the motors movement.
If you create a mounting platform which is able to "give a little" then the props could hit the body when you change directions,
and it would most certainly destroy the mounting bosses, by trying to pull the screws through at all different angles.

It is easier to balance the motors and the props then stay away from more complicated modifications.
However I saw a member fabricated a dual carbon fiber discs with moongel in the middle for this purpose.
