GS for PC Cost

I am a bit new to ground station so a couple of basic questions:

What is the cost for the software (I notice you can download the install and other software for free from the DJI site so I'm slightly confused)?

I have a Vision Plus and noticed this post:

So it looks like Ground Station is compatible with the Vision Plus, with a few dollars and minor effort. Any one with experience (or opinions) with this mod?
