No, the NAZA has to be able to sense input from the regular controller, and that's the only way you could regain control in the middle of a mission (switching from GPS to ATTI mode).
What happens if you are flying with joystick mode via the iPad app and the radio loses signal, but the ground station transmitter still has connection? will the aircraft return to home or can you continue to fly until the ground station control signal is lost?
