GPS Tracking - Prevent Loss

OK, all the gainsayers were correct. That 'mini A8' is crap. It does not have GPS, despite Amazon's listing giving the GPS specs in the items header and in the details! I immediately contacted the supplier 'Top Elecs' (via Amazon) and got a immediate refund. I didn't even have to send the thing back. So I took a very short trip to the dustbin instead of a much longer trip to the post office.

I now have a genuine Xenun TK102-2 on its way to me from the UK. Should be here by Friday.

You should be happy with the TK102. I had the clone and it would not function on GPRS so I sent it back today. Testing out a PocketFinder now. Much more sipmplified UI to deal with too. The fact that they didn't even want the thing back is telling to say the least.

OK, well it's here, set up, and tested. It's an excellent piece of kit. I put it out on the front lawn to initialise it and change the password, then I rang the number and got an SMS with the co-ordiates about 30 seconds later. The coordinates in Google Earth were accurate to within 1.5 metres.

I then took it out back and down to the corner of the pool area and dialled it again. By the time I'd got back to the house I had another SMS with new coordinates, again accurate to within 1.5 metres.

:D

Now all I have to do is find out where on the Phantom to put it :?

This new GPS item is coming to market next month and may just be "the one" to get. It's a shoe sole insert designed for kids and Dementia patients.
The patented GPS SmartSole™ features a miniaturized GPS tracking chip embedded in the insoles and powered by a rechargeable battery that lasts up to 5 days on a single charge. The GPS SmartSole sends aa signal to the central monitoring website showing the wearer’s exact location using a combination of satellite and cellular technology. After you activate and setup your tracking account with GTX Corp, you will be able to monitor the person wearing the GPS SmartSole™, right from your computer, tablet or smartphone.
Looks to be inexpensive and service area looks pretty good using 3g/4g/2g voice.

From the FAQ:Yes, you may use our GPS Insole app for Android and iphone to browse the insoles location. You can also call the insole’s phone number (provided by GTX) from your cell phone, the insoles will hang up the call and send you via text message the insole’s location with a link to the wearer's location on a Google map.

From the FAQ
What is the accuracy of the SmartSole?
In general good conditions GPS is accurate from 50 to 250 meters
Guess I'm going to have to call 'em and check on that. Seems to be a bit much even for finding a person. ;)

Was curious if anyone has tries this GPS Locator.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00J3I79U ... mdsc?dsc=1

It's small, has a SIRF GPS chip in it and uses SIM cards. Only weighs 28g

Here's my forum thread about this GPS locator:

http://www.phantompilots.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=12451&p=111562

after some flights, I'm NOT happy with it; yes it's small and only weights 27 grams, but it's showing many issues... sometimes doesn't power on, I can hear the power-on tone but the lights remain off and doesn't answer to the SMS requests... already ordered another one, the TK106 Pro exactly. 50grams but probably can go down to this same weight just removing the covers. And it's more reliable for sure.

This works great for me. I also take it on my dirt bike and quad so my wife can have peace of mind if I go out alone. I have a Polaris Razor, and when I go out with it, If I go hiking away from it, I strap it it to the Razor so if someone trys to steal it, I can easily track it.

Re: GPS Tracking - Prevent Loss Solution???

Well here's a novel idea. I figured that sport birds like Falcons,Pigeons and Hawks would need some way of tracking so I started to search Falconry sights and sure enough there are GPS and radio tracking devices for sport birds that have to be light, compact and accurate as these birds are quite expensive to replace.

I could use some assistance in flushing out some of the best solutions for us as I don't have a ton of time to devote to this.

I'm tired of my gps tracker and the quality and service it gives seems to be diminishing. Can you guys recommend a good cheap gps tracker just for temporary use?

James, Not sure what you are using but can't go wrong with a Tagg/Whistle animal tracker(3+years in the making)... just replaced my original Tagg with the new whistle 2 a few months ago and additionally just paid for a full years subscription.. I've tested it multiple times, and has worked flawlessly in cell networked areas, can't say much for the obvious dropout of reception. Good Luck, Fly Safely[emoji106]
