GPS Tracker for P3

Where would you mount Trackimo on a P3?

I mount mine with velcro on the battery. You can also tether it with small gauge fishing line or something of that nature if you're fearful that it will come off in a crash. Not a bad idea.

Is that just your opinion or is there any evidence that it could cause a problem. I did wonder about that myself hence why I wouldn't use it to send an update every 10 minutes, I believe that the GPS would only activate if I sent it a text and I would only do that if I lost control of the P3 so at that point any interference would be irrelevant..... that's my logic.....
Just my opinion. Even if it's only updating every 10 minutes it's still turned on. To me it would seem like enough to cause interference. I'm not taking any chances with my new bird when there are other mounting options out there.

I know first hand that mine updates every minute. No flight problems. I did this because some day when DJI get their act together, there will be ground station missions. I can look at the trackimo in case a mission happens to fall out of transmitter range. But 10 minutes is ok and depending where you are in the signal process, you would have to wait in the event of a crash, but I don't really see 10 as being too much. I also set mine to a minuted because I'd like to use mine with my child.

I really wish in the future, a phantom will be made that has a storage compartment for these. Or a recess in the shell. Kind of like a place on my helis where I put a FBL unit or controller. I know the GPS is in the top of the shell, but maybe a recess back near the battery. Until then, I'll buy a carrier to mound to the landing gear. I posted in the general section about the phantom and the trackimo. There's a guy that makes mounts.

I actually have a Sim card from h2o Wireless. I got it on Amazon for a penny, then put $10 on it.
As for the mount, my neighbor has a 3d printer and came up with that for me. I'll be testing the fitment on my p3 tomorrow if I get it.
I'm not sure how long you've been on this plan, but if it's been a while, do you find that the $10 will get you through the full 90 days of tracking without using up all the data?

I think I have that guys page bookmarked, the guy that sells printed mounts that go between the P2's legs.

I have been checking and his site doesn't have any information about a mount for the P3.

Do you have any information about mounts like that for the P3?

I was a beta tester for Flytrex Live last year and according to http://www.flytrex.com/shop they already support P3. I can tell you their Live 3G product works great (requires data connection of course).

A little more on the Flytrex Live: Their original version (a year ago) was 2G like the Trackimo, but they came out with a 3G version late last year and now, an improved 3G version that supports P3 and I1. It costs a bit more than the Trackimo but for me, after using both the 2G and 3G versions, I found 3G worked REALLY a lot better. 2G wasn't bad (on T-Mobile, although expensive) but 3G on h20wireless was awesome (and very cheap at $3.33/mo).

Then there's the flytrex website. They run contests and it's just really well done. My Profile page looks like this: http://www.flytrex.com/nathan.hoover/ where you can see all my public flights and here is the competition page: http://www.flytrex.com/challenges/ - you can also browse by map and of course see flights Live (not video) when people are flying. http://www.flytrex.com/globe/#live

All in all I've found it to be an awesome addition to my Phantoms.

I've just ordered my Flytrex Live 3G for the P3P today - sounds like there are shipping in a week or two.

the ONLY reason I didn't go for that was that I can pull my trackimo off and stick it in my daughter's pocket if we go to a crowded place where she potentially has a mind of her own. I can also take the trackimo and put it on an inspire or other device and use it there too. Now, all I need is an inspire or inspire 2 if I wait.

So far, yes. It's been about two months, and I test it out occasionally to make sure it works, and it hadn't ran out of data yet...

Once mine gets here tomorrow, I'll see if we can 3d print a mount for the P3.

nice thing about a trackimo set to one minute is that you can go back an look at your travel history and see every points it's been over the past hour, 24 hour, week, or set date.

there's a spider web over my whole neighborhood If I go back a week

I wouldn't do that either. I found gps signal hard to acquire through the bulk of the battery.
Spot on advice, i actually tried to velcro it underneath but as you say the tracker could not get a gps signal so the rf v16 is now on the back of the battery held with velcro and a tether for extra security, a good idea of mine you think? Works perfectly, three flights in and its not moved. See my thread . http://www.phantompilots.com/thread...f-v16-tracker-on-p3-only-velcro-needed.42741/

Here is where I put mine. You have to consider if you were to loose your quad who know what orientation it is going to land in, so it does not matter where you put it unless you do want to track it while it is in the air. You just have to hope if you loose it your tracker gets a GPS reception. Mine works flawlessly where it is.

How does the Flytrex interface with the PH3's power source?
