GPS Lock

I was curious if I had to do the GPS rotation dance every time I power on the P3 like I had to do with the V2+..

Or does the P3 lock on new gps location automatically now every time you power it on.

I ask because I use it for roof inspections and if some thing happens and it trys to return to home, I don't want it going to a different location 20miles away.

Back to the manual for you to revise some basics.
The dance you refer to is compass calibration.
GPS is completely unrelated .. you get GPS signal from satellites in the sky with no dance necessary.

The dance is for the compass, not the gps. I would recommend doing it when you travel more than 100miles or when prompted to.

I believe you're talking about calibrating the compass -- which is not related to the GPS lock. See the following thread for more information on when the compass should be re-calibrated:
