    I don't quite understand

Sturdy enough for iPad air 2 and sunshade? Its a little too shaky even after tightening on the stock mount, understandably

Yes, on my P3P. They're a lot more sturdy than the all plastic one. Hardly any shake or sway like the original when holding a full-size tablet like my iPad Air 2.

Got one on the way. How did you install it. Did you have to open up the case?

I was flying with my friend who has an Inspire last week many times and I could really see his was much more solid. Just ordered one for my P3P from Adorama.

So, I guess the answer to my question is No, you don't have to open up the case :)

Ah.. My new P3P Holder is really wiggling when having the nvidia Shield on it.
    This would be sturdier then?

FYI... the metal Inspire arm uses a different screw that the plastic P3P arm.. make sure you have the right one, or that you ask for one when you order. I've had one installed since august... and yes, its rock solid!

Yes, mine is still sturdy. Hardly any movement at all, and at least 5 times better than the original mount made of plastic.
