GoPro H3+ will run without battery

So I just noticed that the H3 Black + will power up with power from the usb video connection, before it would charge the battery when flying so you can now remove the battery and save weight! this could not be done with previous GoPro models, they all had to have a batt in to power up. So is anyone else doing this with the H3+ ??

The gimbaled is balanced with the battery installed, so yeah you save weight but you add stress to the gimbal motors
