I've just bought a Phantom with a FPV transmitter receiver 5.8 but no monitor. I ideally want a set of goggles I know fat shark are good but are there any alternatives at all that will work?

Try the boscam dual 5.8 monitor, comes with sun guard and is a quality lcd monitor. You mount it on the bars at the top of your TX.

I use the fat shark dominators, very pleased with them. Good to have a monitor aswell.
